Bariatric Surgery

Now Treating Patients in Tijuana, Mexico, and Fountain Valley, CA

Are you struggling with obesity? Being overweight carries many health risks, but it also affects people’s self-confidence and productivity levels. Many of our patients have tried to lose weight, struggling with their diet and exercise for years to no avail. However, Kentrum Clinic provides the solution. We offer bariatric surgery, or ‘gastric sleeve surgery’, to overweight individuals who are ready to make a change in their lives.

Different Forms of Bariatric Surgery

Gastric Sleeve Surgery

The gastric sleeve procedures reduces a person’s stomach in size by about 75%. We utilize several small incisions in the abdomen to make this change. Ultimately, the patient ends up feeling full on much less food. The reduction in calorie intake causes their body to drop the excess weight. This procedure is the most commonly used weight loss procedure in the United States and many other developed countries. The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases claims that people lose an average of 90 pounds following a gastric sleeve procedure.

Gastric Bypass Surgery

The gastric bypass involves reducing the size of your stomach by stapling it down to a small pouch. Then, we cut the small intestine and attach it to the small pouch. After, we connect the bypassed section farther down to the lower part of the small intestine. This allows the body to utilize digestive juices in that portion of the stomach and direct them to the small intestine. Similar to the gastric sleeve, this procedure causes patients to lose weight over time through calorie reduction.

Gastric Band Surgery

The gastric band procedure involves placing an inflatable band at the top portion of the stomach. This band occupies space in the patient’s stomach and causes them to feel full on less food. This procedure is adjustable and reversible, though the results may not be as dramatic as the gastric sleeve of the gastric bypass.

Benefits of Bariatric Surgery

Weight Loss

The bariatric surgery procedure involves a major reduction in the size of the patient’s stomach. Hence, when the patient eats, they feel full much more quickly. The typical resulting benefit is that our patients lose weight at an impressive rate that is previously not possible through diet and exercise alone.

Improved Health

Obesity brings the risks of comorbidities such as diabetes, high blood pressure, or metabolic syndrome. These conditions are often seen in combination. Additionally, treating one generally helps improve the others. In this case, our bariatric surgery patients reduce their weight and many of these other conditions show an improvement after the procedure.

Greater Quality of Life

When was the last time you felt full of energy and passion to tackle all of the responsibilities you had to take care of that day? Our patients have a lot to deal with in their lives between work, family obligations, and even getting some exercise in to stay healthy.

Carrying extra weight around tends to slow you down and turns even simple tasks in to a demanding activity. Fortunately, Kentrum Clinic observes a restoration of vitality and energy levels in our patients after the bariatric surgery. Ultimately, this carries over into other areas of their lives as they become more productive and able to meet their demands.
